"Unknown Devices" in Windows Device Manager

Hi All,

This is a Step by step Guide to get the Hardware IDS to find and download specific Drivers for Units that have device driver Issues.

1: Open “device manager” from the “Control panel”.
2: Search for any device that shows up as “unknown” or “Other device”.

3: Right click on the device and select ”properties” as shown in the image below.

4: Go to the “details tab” and select the option “Hardware IDS”[In windows 7 this should be the second option in the drop down list]

5: Please copy the VEN_XXXX and DEV_XXXX number as displayed above.

Open Your System browser [Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox) and visit http://www.pcidatabase.com

Enter the 4 digit number after VEN_ in the Vendor search Field and Click on Search as shown below.

Similarly, you can enter the 4 digit number after the DEV_ field in the Device Search Field to get information on the type of device.

Once done, you can look up the same driver from the computer manufacturer's website.

Cheers,
